I was beginning to wonder if James Bond was dead, but along comes Daniel Craig to breathe new life into the role, giving us a lean, mean 007 that blows previous Bonds away. Martin Campbell went back to the basics, retooling Bond and giving him a much more physical presence, reminiscent of Sean Connery. From the opening sequence we see we are in for a real treat, as Campbell takes nothing for granted. He knows he has to earn the audience’s respect, and he does with a thrilling chase scene in the chaotic urban center of an African republic.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Casino Royale! Click Here

Bond really comes across as a rogue agent in Casino Royale, stealing his way into M’s apartment to leave her coded messages, taking risks that threaten painstaking operations and getting himself into jams that require MI6 to bail him out. This is a young impetuous Bond, overanxious and thrilling to watch as Craig fills his role with the energy of a stage actor.

There is also one of the best villains in recent years with Mads Mikkelsen as the cold blooded Le Chiffre. He heads an international cartel not so much bent on world destruction as on taking advantage of the chaos in which we live. He is a much more believable villain than Spectre and relies on much simpler methods of getting his piece of flesh from someone.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Casino Royale! Click Here

It is also refreshing to see Bond have a real love interest in Eva Green, not the usual banter that rings hollow. Bond is not afraid to expose himself in this movie, revealing a much more vulnerable figure than we have seen before.

MI6 also finds itself as a much more porous organization, capable of being infiltrated so that Bond doesn’t know who to trust in key moments. All he has is the support of M, played to deadpan perfection by Judi Dench.

Everything about this movie is fresh and clean, including the opening credits. Bond hasn’t looked this good since the early films in the series with Sean Connery. There is even an amusing scene where Bond wins a 1964 Aston Martin in a poker game, a tip of the hat to Goldfinger.

I loved the first Blu-Ray edition. I have not seen the Collector’s Edition yet, but they have added so much more to this. I got this from the BluRay.com website….

Why has Get Smart not yet been released on DVD? It simply boggles my mind because this is about the funniest show I have ever watched. I grew up with Get Smart and its good natured spy humor.

If you are like me, you think of Siegfried and not Doc Bricker when you think of Bernie Kopel. the only character that comes to mind when you think of Dick Gautier is Hymie the Robot. the great Edward Platt will always be The Chief and Barbara Feldon’s character 99 will always be the ever faithful comic foil and love interest to Maxwell Smart, Secret Agent 86 of CONTROL.

All of Get Smart’s legion of fans want to see the return of Leadside, and the Tequila Mockingbird, and the Craw NOT the Craw!, and Agent 13, and Stocker, and Harry Hoo The Famous Hawaiian Detective, and the Groovy Guru, and Destructo, and Mary Jack Armstrong the Strongest Woman Alive, and the lovable King of Coronia, and TBO The Big One, and well the list can and does go and on!

Please, please give us EVERY season of Get Smart on DVD! I am begging you PLEASE! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!!

EDIT 12/5/06

well i just received my complete series from Time Life and it is wonderful! Barbara Feldon narrates an intro before each episode and the quality is astounding! they did a wonderful job with this boxed set! i heartily recommend anyone who loves Get Smart to buy it! and Time Life oftens issues coupon codes so sign up on their site and purchase with the coupon code like i did to save thirty bucks! ENJOY!

Not too long ago I wrote a review of the book, The Get Smart Handbook written by Joey Green. In the review, I basically made a plea to the universe to bring this show out on DVD. Well, would you believe on November 15, 2006, I will get my wish?

Time-Life is offering The Complete Get Smart Collection. A 25 disc collection featuring every episode digitally remastered. I guess it is selling for approximately $200. It could be $2,000 and I would still buy this classic show.

I have friends’ that tell me I am stuck in a time warp because I watch very little television that is actually new. For some reason or another the writing of the older shows far surpass the writing of today’s television shows. I watched a rerun of Friends’ the other night and I was literally dizzy after watching that show. There were like four stories going on in one show? Have we become that much of an ADD society where we can’t just have one show with one plot for thirty minutes? It seems as though everything today is so “extreme” and so in your face. I actually get offended at some of the things I have watched and I’m not easily offended.

But this show, Get Smart, conceived by certified “Wack Jobs” Mel Brooks and Buck Henry is in a class all by itself. This show is brilliant in every way. The writing, the acting, the production value. It did get a little cheesy when Maxwell Smart and agent 99 got married, but even those episodes were funnier than the stuff that’s out there now.

The only thing that I really feel saddened about is that this release is coming after Don Adam’s death. For a very long time, Don Adams was my hero. While other kids on the playground pretended to be the Six Million Dollar Man or Batman, I was Secret Agent 86. I used to purposely forget my homework so I could do the “Would you believe?” shtick with my teacher.

Mmmmm..it was always funnier on the show than in real life.

Well, I know one of my Christmas presents this year because I am going to buy this collection for myself.

Peace & Blessings, everyone, and may television return to the dally of the belly laugh…
mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars hack | mafia wars cheats
convert dvd to avi
Watch March Madness Online | Watch Final Four 2010

Okay, so Funimation seems to just grab people off the street to dub the voices for their English Dragon Ball Z releases, and the way they mess up the original plots and music makes my skin crawl. At least they’ve started giving us the option to view the movies in the original Japanese with directly translated subtitles!

The plot of this movie (originally a TV special in Japan) is darker than most DBZ tales, and portrays a very Japanese sense of honor and vindication. Goku’s father, who we know to have been killed by Freeza, is “cursed” by a dying alien to see the future of his race. As the movie progresses, he periodically sees flashes of his infant son Goku growing up, and the destruction of planet Vegita. When none of his comrades will believe his premonitions, Bardock embarks on a last ditch effort to stop Freeza and change his future.

If you are a DBZ fan GET THIS DVD. Just do yourself a favor and DON’T WATCH THE ENGLISH DUB!

…I really enjoyed this one. It MUST be watched in its original language to be really appreciated and that’s the strength of this DVD. It has the original version with English sub titles!

The reason I was unsure about the story line is that it was about Bardock, I mean, who cares about Goku’s father, right? It’s Goku and Vegeta and Piccolo we all care about, right? But despite my reservations this was a rousing good story giving us a rare glimpse into the past and the lives of the Saiyins. In the Japanese version Bardock comes across as the trained soldier that he is, ruthless and single minded until he is granted the chance to see things from another point of view and therefore begin questioning for the first time in his life.

In the English version they try to whitewash him a bit and it just doesn’t work. The beauty of the story is Bardock’s realisation of what he and his people have allowed themselves to become in the service of Frieza, making the destruction of his race all the more poignant.

I recommend any anime title that has the original Japanese version on it anyway, but this one really illustrates the differences between the original and Funimations condescending makeover. Watch the two versions one after another and see if you agree with me!
mafia wars hack
nc homes for sale | nc real estate | wake forest 27587 nc homes for sale
Watch Online TV Shows | Watch Sports Online | watch online movies

Now I haven’t seen the whole series (because it is not fully released in the US yet), Candidate for Goddess (also known as Piolit Candidate) is a great series. It is of a SiFi Drama about the human race trying to stay alive in mysterious attacks from “Victim” (notice the name, which most likely has hidden meaning). In this battle humans use robots controlled buy humans with EX power (actually it’s more like an evolved form of human, which basically is a person with a self inhancing ability). The main characters face internal struggles while trying to become piolits of Robots to save their colony. The robots themselves are also mysterious, especially the Goddesses. It seems to hint of the fact that they may not have been man made.

Altogether it is a great series and I recomend it to anyone, however the 2nd eppisode in this volume contains a good amout of nudity that was edited out of Cartoon Network’s version. However it is not graphic (so it isn’t Hentai) also on the Cartoon Network version the cigarette has been changed to a tooth pick. (I thought this was important to mention to parents)

I am what one would call a hard core anime fan, but unlike others I do not see the extremely exaggerated “borrowed ideas” of what others see to be true. The only similarities between anouther series and this is slkightly with the way the robots are piolited and the way they are piolited in Neon Genesis: Evangelion (another series in which I highly recoment for adults to watch, very enlightening series). The main differece though is that in an eva you sit down and in a Goddess you float. However, I assume some people consider it borrowed because they both have the piolots link up directly with the mind to their crafts. I don’t believe it resembles gundam at all (which is a war series), if the reason it is believed it is similar because of the colonies then it is incedibly mistaken because many space series in all over the world have people live on space colonies and ships. This makes it laughable to think it was started by Gundam Wing (which is a good series also), a series which basically is the original gundam series in 79 conbined with other gundam series (hince the catagory it’s under: Alternate Universe Gundam Series) remixed with a cupple of original ideas and a more political view on things.

The animation style is mixed 2D and 3D (similar to the way Blue Submarine No 6 is (a miniseries that should be perchaced by all anime fans)

The music is very nice with orchestrated music and great vocal music. It really makes the series even more enjoyable.

The English voices are not too bad, they are not of the superior caliber of Cowboy Bebop (which had the best dubbed voices for an anime), but they are not horrible and are still pleasant to hear.

Also, like I said, the story is also excellent, though from what I’ve heard it is a short series (of the OVA size, which is about 13 eppisodes).

The extras are really great, however it is better on the second dvd where you get to see what it’s like to do the dubbing for the show the japanese stle.

The only main problem I see is the translation errors in the english subtitles (though it doesn’t hurt the fun in watching subtitled anime) and the fact that there are only three eppisodes per DVD. (which is why it didn’t get a perfect)

All in all a very great series that I’d recomend to anyone (over 13)

This series is the BEST!!! I have seen all the episodes shown on adult swim. I taped all of them and watched them over and over, but unfortunatly the tapes were corrupted and now I’m buying the whole series on DVD. The series isn’t a copy off of anything, but the only disappointing part is that the series is cut off when it could have and should have gone a lot further.
convert dvd to avi
Eliminate Credit Card Debts | Get Rid of Credit Card Debt Now | Credit Card Debt Consolidation
homes for sale nc | nc real estate | durham 27703 nc homes for sale

I’m not sure we’re all seeing the same movie here. One comment I keep hearing is that the actresses did not perform well, and I cannot comprehend it. Ziyi Zhang especially gave one of the best performances I have seen in years, at least. Just look at her physically shaking during her last scene with Ken Watanabe. This complete giving over to the emotion of the character is nearly unsurpassed in anything I’ve seen in years, and I’m a huge cinemaphile. That’s not to mention the flawless way she carried the postures and demeanor of the child star that played her young self through-out, giving a sense of consistency that I have almost never seen done this well. It’s early impossible to remember that these two actresses are not really the same person with the way their performances meshed. So, maybe it’s the reserved nature of Asian women, and the dualing of this nature with a sense of individuality and self-expression that people are interpreting as “not understanding the character”?

Buy,Download, Or Stream Memoirs of a Geisha! Click Here

All I can say is, the cinematography and settings are gorgeous, as are the actresses (and what a stellar cast!), the performances are great (maybe the bar has been lowered so much lately that the degree of skill brought to the screen here is more than some people can handle). That’s the only reason I can offer for the bad reactions I have heard.

The story is involving, and very realistic in terms of human nature. The romance is wonderful. There are flashes of humor and some of the script is pure poetry (and as a poet you can believe me on that!) I could go on all day, but let me just say this.

The movie is awesome, and the time flew by for me. It is not the over-wrought heart-rending sap that some may want it to be, but it is very true to the way most people behave, and especially in the reserved manner of the Japanese. In my book everyone involved in this deserves a huge round of kudos, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys beautiful things, and incredibly realized films.

Memoirs of a Geisha is a stunning movie. I haven’t read the book, but now wish I had. The movie is close to 2 1/2 hours long, but the story and scenery are so captivating, it seems so much quicker. The costumes are fantastic and it’s no wonder they are nominated for Oscars.

It tells the story of a little girl called Chiyo who along with her older sister, is sold by their father who has no money. The people who bought her, want to make her a geisha so she goes off to school but brings disgrace to herself and therefore they make her their slave. Upon chance, she meets a kind man who buys her a sweet cherry ice cone. She never forgets him and sees him again by chance some years later. Now she has hope and learns again (in a crash course) how to be a geisha and her new name is Sayuri.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Memoirs of a Geisha! Click Here

The story that unfolds from there has ups and downs but the ending is so moving that of course I cried my head off. The setting is beautiful and it made me want to go and visit Japan. The music too is lovely and I hope they do get some Oscars next week because it’s a very deserving movie. There is also a great performance by an actress called Li Gong who plays ‘Queen Bitch’ Hatsumomo and look for a small role played by Ted Levine who we normally see in a funny role as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in Monk.

Beautiful move that you absolutely have to see. (Especially on the big screen if you still can).
Watch March Madness Online | Watch Final Four 2010
Watch Online TV Shows | Watch Sports Online | watch online movies
Watch March Madness Online | Watch Final Four 2010

A View to a Kill is my all time favorite Bond movie. I think Roger Moore gives a great performance in his last Bond film. …The pre-title ski scene is magnificent, probably my favorite out of all.
The best thing out of this whole movie is Max Zorin’s main method of transportation is by blimp, a very interesting aircraft. Very interesting when involved in the finale action scene. Also I must say i was very fond of Zorin’s head of security, Scarpine, played by Patrick Baucheau…. One last thing about this movie is that I think it has the best music out of all the Bond films especially what they play during action scenes.

Growing up in Scotland this WAS my favorite James Bond movie. Roger Moore (in his finale as 007) tones down the outright absurdity of its immediate predecessor (Octopussy) but the larger than life characters, impossible escapes and grand set-pieces are still in evidence here. The stand-outs in this caper (as with most 007 adventures) are the villains, Christopher Walken is over-the-top and obviously having a great time as Max Zorin as is Grace Jones as May Day. The worst actor award here without question goes to Tanya Roberts. the obligatory Bond girl, who (although incredibly beautiful ) just does not convince as a geologist with a personal grudge against the wonderfully psychotic Zorin. Action fans will be delighted with the action scenes here that range from the a heart pounding opening sequence, a pursuit through Paris, a police chase across San Fransisco to a final duel in which both an airship and the golden gate bridge play a part. Judging by the consistently great quality and fabulous features (audio commentaries and documentaries) on the previous two batches of DVDs this promises to be THE deifinitive record of this production. One of the definite highlights of the special features is a previously unseen deleted scene of a policeman going through Bonds personal effects (ie gadgets) at a Paris police station – Zowie!

Buy,Download, Or Stream A View to a Kill! Click Here

UPDATE- It should be noted that there is a rerelease of this movie coming up on DVD which will feature a newly recorded scene specific audio commentary by Bond actor Roger Moore. So, it may well be worth holding off on a purchase until these Ultimate Editions are released towards the end of 2006.
DVD to ipod converter | DVD to mpg | dvd to psp
Watch March Madness Online | Watch live sports 2010 | College Basketball Final Four
Eliminate Credit Card Debts | Get Rid of Credit Card Debt Now | Credit Card Debt Consolidation

The Simpsons DVD sets so far have been jam-packed with extras, commentaries, and creative menu pages, which may be the reason the seasons are fairly slow in coming out. I am getting a bit antsy because the next 7 seasons or so are so great, but good things come to those who wait. Season five has some of my favorite episodes. Some were pretty rare to see in syndication and now almost impossible to see as the current reruns seem to concentrate on the later seasons. Here are my season five highlights:

“Homer’s Barbershop Quartet” with an appearance by George Harrison. This parody of the Beatles is very clever, especially Barney’s girlfriend, “the Japanese conceptual artist.”

“Rosebud” is in my top 10 Simpsons episodes ever. Mr. Burns is obsessed with finding his boyhood teddy bear Bobo. It is one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. The best part is when Smithers dresses like Bobo to try to, uh, cheer up Burns.

“Bart’s Inner Child”: Self-help guru Brad Goodman is impressed by Bart’s “do what you feel like” attitude. Springfield puts together a “Do What You Feel Festival,” a welcome change from the “Do As We Say Festival” (started by German settlers).

“Boy-Scoutz in the Hood”: Another favorite of mine. A sugar high causes Bart to join the junior campers, lead by Ned Flanders. Enduring Homer’s constant teasing, Bart dreads telling Homer about the father-son rafting trip (Homers response: “Ha, you don’t have a son.”). Ernest Borgnine guest stars.

“Homer and Apu”: Apu gets busted for selling tainted meat and loses his job at the Kwik-E-Mart. At one point, Apu and Homer travel to India so Apu can seek forgiveness from the Keik-E-Mart CEO who resides in not the most conveniently located convenience stores. James Woods guest stars.

“Lisa Vs. Malibu Stacy”: Lisa is on a rampage when her talking Malibu Stacy doll says things like “Don’t ask me, I’m just a girl.” She meets with the doll’s creator Stacy Lovell to design a more politically correct doll. Lovell had been forced out of the company because her ideas were not cost effective (oh, and she was also “funneling profits to the Viet Cong”). It is hilarious. Smithers’ start-up page on his computer is a must-see.

“Deep Space Homer”: A classic where Homer goes into space. Buzz Aldrin and James Taylor are guests.

“The Boy Who Knew Too Much”: Bart plays hooky and witnesses an incident that causes a trial against Mayor Quimby’s nephew Freddy. On the jury is Homer “how many s’s are in innocent” Simpson.

“Secrets of a Successful Marriage”: Homer feels important teaching a class on marriage but Marge is not happy with his “tell all” lesson plan.

These are my favorites of this DVD set. Other episodes include: Cape Feare (starring Springfield’s criminal mastermind Sideshow Bob), Homer Goes to College, Treehouse of Horror IV (where Homer sells his soul for a donut), Marge on the Lam (a Thelma and Louise parody), The Last Temptation of Homer, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling, Homer the Vigilante, Bart Gets Famous (Bart as the “I didn’t do it” boy), Homer Loves Flanders, Bart Gets an Elephant, Burn’s Heir, Sweet Seymour Skinner’s Baadasssss Song, and Lady Bouvier’s Lover (with a parody of The Graduate).

Seems like Fox Studio is getting faster at pumping these DVDs out. The fifth season might be where the simpsons jumped the shark pit, but I’ll leave that discussion to the ubernerds. The fifth season includes the following episodes:

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Simpsons – The Complete Fifth Season! Click Here

Homer’s Barbershop Quartet: While looking through old records, the kids discover their dad was in a barbershop quartet. Guest appearnce by George Harrison.

Cape Feare [sic]: Side show bob is out to kill Bart and the family is put in the witness relocation program. Includes the famous “hello Mr. Thompson” scene.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Simpsons – The Complete Fifth Season! Click Here

Homer Goes to College: After a nuclear plant inspection, Homer has to go to college. The episode is a send up of popular college movies of the 80’s (e.g. Revenge of the nerds or animal house). Homer falls in with the nerd crowd.

Rosebud: In a long turn of events, Mr. Burn’s childhood teddy bear ends up in Maggie’s hands. Burns and Homer negotiate for the return of the bear. Special guests: the Ramones.

Treehouse of Horror IV: Homer sells his soul for a donut, Bart spies a gremlin on the side of the school bus (ala twilight zone), and Homer kills the vampire Mr. Burns (ala Braum Stroker’s Dracula).

Marge on the Lam: In a spoof of Thelma and Loise, Marge and her neighbor go on a cross country chase, when her neighbor steals her ex’s car.

Bart’s inner child: A self-help guru uses Bart as an example of freeing one’s inner child. A “do what you feel like” style festival ensues. Guest stars James Brown.

Boy Scoutz in da Hood: After a sugar binge, Bart and Milhouse find themselves enrolled in the boyscouts. Hilarity ensues.

The Last Temptation of Homer: When a beautiful woman starts working at the plant, Homer’s faithfulness is put to the test. Guest starring Michelle Pfeiffer.

$pringfield: Mr. Burns opens a casino in Springfield. Homer works at the casino, while Marge develops a gambling problem.

Homer the Vigilante: A catburglar is loose in Springfield. Homer forms a watch group (read mob) to catch the thief.

Bart Gets Famous: While working on the Krusty the Klown show, Bart inadvertantly steals Krusty’s thunder and has his 15 minutes of fame. Guest starring Conan O’Brien (who used to write for the show).

Homer and Apu: Homer gets sick after eating rotting meat from the Quickie Mart. As penance, Apu moves in to be a servant for the Simpsons. Homer and Apu then try to get Apu’s job back.

Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy: Lisa fights back against corporate America’s barbi-style image by producing a doll designed to give girls a positive image for themselves.

Deep Space Homer: Homer competes for and wins (by default) a spot on the spaceshuttle. His incompetence nearly kills them, and then saves the crew. Stars Buzz Aldrin and James Taylor.

Homer Loves Flanders: Homer sucks up to Flanders when he learns Flanders has football tickets. His relationship grows with Ned (uncomfortably so for Ned), until Homer realizes that Flanders is a jerk.

Bart gets an Elephant: Through a wacky radio contest, Bart wins an elephant. Unable to care for it, he is forced to give it up to a wildlife refuge.

Burn’s Heir: Bart competes for, and wins a spot as the heir to Burn’s fortune. But he renounces the throne when Burns wants him to fire Homer.

Sweet Seymore Skinner’s Baadasssss Song: Bart’s hijinks finally get Seymore fired as the school’s principle. He re-enlists in the army. Bart and Homer try to get him back as principle when Ned Flanders becomes the new school principle.

The Boy Who Knew Too Much: When Bart skips school he witnesses a crime, allegedly committed by the Mayor’s brother. Bart’s testimony can clear him, but Seymore will know Bart cut class. Homer serves on the jury (“I know you can read my thoughts boy…meow meow meow meow…”)

Lady Boivier’s Lover: Marge’s mom falls for Homer’s dad, only to fall for Mr. Burns.

Secrets of a Successful Marriage: Homer teaches class as a marriage counselor, but ends up dishing the dirt on his own marriage.
BROADWAY THE GOLDEN AGE is a must-see for all serious admirers and fans of theatre. Rick McKay spent several years tracking down and interviewing almost every surviving Broadway star of the Golden Age to share their entertaining, gripping and often very emotional reminisces.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Broadway – The Golden Age, by the Legends Who Were There! Click Here

Virtually everybody is included, with highlights being the late great Gwen Verdon (SWEET CHARITY, REDHEAD, CHICAGO, CAN-CAN, DAMN YANKEES), Jerry Orbach (CARNIVAL!, PROMISES PROMISES, CHICAGO) and Uta Hagen (STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE).

The film is peppered with juicy bits of gossip and info, with Shirley MacLaine, John Raitt and Janis Paige all recounting MacLaine’s rise to fame following her historic job of understudying Carol Haney in THE PAJAMA GAME. Angela Lansbury fighting tool and nail for the role of MAME and Lainie Kazan being replaced by one of her closest friends, Michele Lee, in SEESAW.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Broadway – The Golden Age, by the Legends Who Were There! Click Here

I almost fell out of my chair when rare filmed footage of Ethel Merman in GYPSY and Angela Lansbury in MAME flashed (all-too-briefly) across the screen, and howled with laughter at some of the jokes cracked by Elaine Stritch and Robert Morse.

This release should be a mandatory purchase for anyone who cares about theatre. I was so moved by the end that I was speechless….I’m still speechless. This is more than a documentary, it’s a life-changing experience.

It would be easy, perhaps too easy but all together appropriate, to sing Rick McKay’s praises. We could say that “he dreamed a dream of days gone by.” Or that he “had a dream/a dream about you baby/It’s gonna come true baby.” Or “to dream the impossible dream ” It’s only fitting that McKay’s impossible dream came true, a dream that began while he was growing up in the ’60s in Beech Grove, Indiana. As a child, he read and wondered about the neon lights of Broadway. He wanted to know about the so-called Golden Age of Broadway, when Carol and Gwen and Chita and Robert and Ethel and John and Angela and Alfred and other luminaries lit up the marquees; about the days and nights when a seat in the balcony cost less than a first-run movie ticket; about the plays and musicals that had people lining up before the Great White Way became such a fabulously famous, and too often colorless, invalid. Some people can be content, playing bingo and paying rent. Not Rick McKay. In 1981, he moved to New York, wishing for a theatrical future and hoping to document the past. Armed with a camera, a potent Rolodex and unbridled perseverance, he set out to find as many Broadway legends as he could to question them about one thing: Was there really a Golden Age of Broadway? And if so, what happened to it? He wrote letters. A few responded. One — Gwen Verdon — dropped by his apartment, where McKay interviewed her with his hand-held camera. (It became the final interview Verdon did before her death.) For five years, McKay persevered, interviewing whomever he could wherever he could, going to England to chase down Jeremy Irons, traveling nearly six hours by bus to meet Maureen Stapleton at her New England home — and to be greeted at the door with “Who the f— is that?” Whenever the money ran out, McKay hosted fundraising parties and sold his personal possession; his piano went for $1,700. He eventually ended up with 250 hours of footage that he edited (on the Murphy bed of his teeny apartment) down to the 111-minute documentary, “Broadway: The Golden Age.” A valentine that’s as historical as it is entertaining, Broadway pays homage to the parade that passed by … and to those folk who are today passed by and to those who have passed on to the Great Green Room in the Sky. The flick is crammed with towering theatrical talents from the ’40s through the ’60s … a veritable Playbill of four-star names, from A (Abbott, George) to Z (Ziemba, Karen), with a middle stage crammed with 98 more, including Julie Harris and Carol Burnett and John Raitt and Elaine Stritch and Shirley MacLaine and Angela Lansbury and Chita Rivera and John Raitt and Kander and Ebb and Comden and Green and Harold Prince and Stephen Sondheim and … well, you get the idea. But “Broadway: The Golden Age” is so much more than a talking-head talkfest of 100 sterling legends reminiscing about those 24-karat decades. The film’s divided into several “chapters” (such as “The First Time,” “Getting the Job,” “The Days of Out-of-Town Previews”), and McKay intercuts memories with music, rare archival footage, home movies, newsreels, videotapes and film clips and theatrical trailers. Some of the footage is exceedingly rare: I gasped when viewing Laurette Taylor in her 1938 screen test for David O. Selznick, the only existing sound film she ever made. I cried while watching Bob Fosse assisting his then-wife Gwen Verdon in a “Whatever Lola Wants” run through from “Damn Yankees.” Ben Gazzara as Brick in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” mesmerized me in footage everyone (including the actor) was certain did not exist. The stories told are passionate and priceless. Some will break your heart. Some will make you weep. Others amuse, few annoy. The actors talk about first jobs, missed roles, big breaks, empty stomachs and emptier pockets, disappointment and despair, being hired and fired, hope and honor, famous co-stars (and sometimes bedmates), out-of-town try-outs and the days when performers didn¹t need microphones. They talk from their hearts and souls as only show folk do. Ben Gazzara talks about his alcohol-sodden affair with Elaine Stritch and muses (in a most loving way): “You’d look at her and think, ‘How much can one person drink?’” Later, when most of the then-struggling artists remember the days of hanging out at Walgreens, Stritch barks: “I never went through that drugstore period,. I went to saloons.” (Make sure you stay until the very end of the film: Stritch gets the last comment … and what a doozy it is!) Marian Seldes cites Laurette Taylor, Kim Stanley and Geraldine Page as the theater’s three finest actresses. Shirley MacLaine reveals that she became the first Broadway star to utter a certain scatological four-letter word on stage (when she dropped her hat during the now-legendary “Steam Heat” number of “The Pajama Game) … and how she survived on lemonade … with the lemons, water and sugar, free for the taking at the Automat. Julie Harris openly weeps when she recalls seeing Ethel Waters on stage for the first time. Carol Burnett recalls how she and her three roommates had so little money that they shared a “rehearsal” dress whoever got the job paid for its dry cleaning. Some of the stories didn’t make the cut (McKay is working on a sequel, “Broadway: The Next Generation.”)Here’s one for starters: McKay remembers chatting with Charles Nelson Reilly. “He told me that the night before our interview, he had watched Julie Harris in “The Member of the Wedding,” Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy in “The Fourposter,” Laurence Olivier in “The Entertainer” and Laurette Taylor in “The Glass Menagerie,” McKay recalls. “Charlie said, `Those films are clearer than my tape of `All About Eve,’ because they’re up here — and then he touched his head. That’s what you must tell people `that they will never forget what happens to them in the theater.’”
Watch March Madness Online | Watch Final Four 2010
mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars hack | mafia wars cheats
Watch Online TV Shows | Watch Sports Online | watch online movies

My daughter enjoyed some of the Animal Atlas clips from a bonus CD included with another order, so I thought I would suprise her with a full DVD of Animal Atlas. This DVD starts off saying that it is different than their normal light-hearted shows, and is a little more serious. OK, wasn’t sure what to expect, but they went on to say they were going to talk about endangered animals and how important it is to help and preserve our wildlife. Sounds good, and it is in theory, but NOT in the way this DVD does. It is way too strong languaged, talking about slaughtering of animals – which of course my daughter wanted to know what that meant – how tiger’s paws look better on the animal, having gun sounds in the background while talking about poachers, etc.

My daughter was very upset after watching just a portion of this DVD and we quickly turned it off. She has continued to be upset for a few days, and with bad dreams about animals being hurt (they didn’t show any hurt animals, the strong suggestions were enough). I am appalled that the producers would publish this DVD for the intended age group (my daughter is four). I had ordered the other two Animal Atlas DVDs as well, but haven’t opened them, and will send all of them back.
Watch March Madness Online | Watch Final Four 2010
Watch March Madness Online | Watch live sports 2010 | College Basketball Final Four
nc homes for sale | nc real estate | wake forest 27587 nc homes for sale

Oldboy has a Shakespearian tone as it depicts the tale of Oh Dae-su (Min-sik Choi), whose name means “he who can get along with people”. Oh Dae-su is on his way home after having been arrested for public drunkenness to celebrate his daughters birthday. However, Oh Dae-su never arrives to his home as he is kidnapped and imprisoned in a small room where his only contact with the human world is a television. During the time Oh Dae-su is caged someone murders his wife and he becomes the prime suspect for the murder. The questions that Oh Dae-su unsuccessfully attempts to answer while locked up is why revenge is being taken on him and who is seeking this cruel revenge. After 15 years Oh Dae-su is released from his torturous imprisonment, which leaves him confused and ragingly vengeful.

Chan-wook Park directs a brilliant cinematic experience that is full of well-written conspiring intrigues that will keep the audience in suspense. The suspense is initiated in the opening shot where a man is hanging over the edge of a roof top causing the audience to asks themselves–why is this happening? The suspense continues as new and mysterious clues appears, but apprehension does not leave the audience even after the end of the film as the final line echos in the minds of the audience. Park’s vision of revenge in Oldboy often depicts exaggerated violence that is well balanced with story as it is related to the themes of the film. However, this should serve as a warning to squeamish folks as the film is occasionally brutal and bizarre. Furthermore, the cinematography used in Oldboy vividly projects the emotional tone of the cinematic themes and characters. The characters are also superbly performed by an excellent cast, which will help the audience to experience a first class cinematic event.

Some films just do not allow themselves to fall into generalizations and these films pose conundrums when one tries to explain them. I’ve owned _Old Boy_ for a number of months now, but for some reason or another I had been able to make myself sit down and watch the film. For some reason I thought it was a horror film and being that I generally do not care for horror films I let this one sit on the sidelines while I watched other films. However, I was finally inspired to watch this film when my Korean office partner told me how much she enjoyed the film, been amazed by Choi Min Sik’s acting, and how long the film stuck in her head after watching it. Trusting my friend’s taste in film, last night I finally settled down to watch the film and similar to my reaction with other films that I had underestimated, I wondered: Why the heck had I had not watched this film earlier?

Buy,Download, Or Stream Oldboy! Click Here

The film begins with a drunken Oh Daesu, Choi Min Sik, sitting in the police office. He is a noisy drunk heaping abuse on the police officers and constantly trying to urinate on the floor. He tells the police to let him go because it is his daughter’ birthday, but when his pleas fall on death ears, he becomes even more recalcitrant to remain calm in the police office. Eventually Daesu’s friend comes to pick up his inebriated friend. However, while talking to Daesu’s daughter on the phone, the friend notices that Daesu is missing.

Daesu finds himself imprisoned in a room that resembles a cheap motel room. Fed a diet of dumplings and with a television as his only companion, Daesu will live for fifteen years inside of that small room. Occupying his time watching television, punching the walls, writing the names of all who might have had him imprisoned in that room, watching television, and carving a hole in the wall with a metal chopstick, Daesu grows older his youth withered away within that room. However, one day, he finds himself on top of a building finally free to hunt the individual who had imprisoned him. Daesu eventually makes a new friend in the personage of the young sushi chef Mido, Gang Hye Jeong, who for some reason seems to fall for Daesu as he consumes a live squid, who accompanies him on his search for the individual who ruined his life.

This is an extraordinary film. Choi Min Sik’s acting is top notch and one can really feel his anger and frustration inside of his prison. I won’t go into details here, but his performance during the final minutes of the film must be witnessed to be believed. The music is grand and the special effects are nicely done. The ant poking through Daesu’s skin is very creepy.
